Events of Book 4 (July 1994 - July 1995)
1994
July
Bertha Jorkins goes on vacation in Albania. She is caught by Pettigrew and Voldemort kills her after exacting information about Barty Crouch Jr. and the Triwizard Tournament.
August 19
Aunt Petunia discovers Dudley has been sneaking donuts into his room in defiance of his diet. She threatens to cut his pocket money, and in anger Dudley throws his PlayStation out the window.
August 20
Frank Bryce discovers Voldemort and Pettigrew living in the Riddle House and is killed.
Harry sees the preceding events in a dream, and when he wakes up his scar hurts. He writes a letter to Sirius. Harry is invited to attend the Quidditch World Cup with the Weasleys.
August 21
The Weasleys come to pick Harry up. They try to arrive by Floo powder, except the fireplace is blocked so Mr. Weasley must blast them free. Fred drops a charmed toffee which Dudley eats. The candy causes Dudley's tongue to swell up.
They return to the Burrow, where Harry meets Bill Weasley for the first time. Fred and George get in trouble for the toffee.
August 22
The Weasleys plus Harry and Hermione arrive at the campsite for the World Cup. They meet Ludo Bagman and Barty Crouch. Fred and George make a bet with Bagman that Ireland will win but the Hungarian seeker Viktor Krum will get the Golden Snitch.
The Weasleys have seats in the top box at the stadium. Other spectators there include the Bulgarian Minister, the Malfoy family, and a house-elf named Winky. Winky is supposedly saving a seat for her master Barty Crouch Sr. but he never shows up. It is later revealed that Barty Crouch Jr. was hidden under an invisibility cloak the entire time. He steals Harry's wand.
The match begins and Ireland takes a large lead. Ireland beats Hungaria by ten points after Krum gets the Snitch. Fred and George collect their winnings from Ludo Bagman.
That night the camp is besieged by Death Eaters. Mr. Weasley wakes the kids and sends them into the woods while he and the other adults try to sort things out. Harry discovers his wand is missing. Barty Crouch Jr. casts the Dark Mark in the woods and disappears. The gathered wizards find Winky the House-Elf clutching Harry's wand, which was used to conjure the Mark. Though they conclude that Winky could not have conjured the Mark, Barty Crouch Sr. openly fires her for disobedience, though really because she could not control his son.
August 23
The Weasleys leave the camp and head home. Harry tells Ron and Hermione about his scar hurting.
August 23-31
The Ministry of Magic receives numerous Howlers complaining about security at the World Cup.
August 31
The Weasleys discuss the happenings at the Ministry. Ron gets upset over the dress robes his mother bought for him.
Mad-Eye Moody is attacked by Barty Crouch Jr. at home. Crouch begins to impersonate Moody so he can infiltrate Hogwarts.
September 1
Ron, Harry, and Hermione return to Hogwarts. Professor Dumbledore announces the Triwizard Tournament. Mad-Eye Moody arrives at the school.
September 2
The Gryffindors have Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures in the morning. Hagrid breeds a batch of Blast-Ended Skrewts for the kids to take care of. After lunch Harry and Ron have Double Divination with Professor Trelawney, who gives the class extra homework. At dinner they are teased by Malfoy again, so Harry insults his mother and turns away. Malfoy attacks Harry from behind, but is turned into a white ferret by Moody.
September 8
The Gryffindors have their first class with Moody. He demonstrates the three Unforgivable Curses to them. Harry finally gets a reply from Sirius.
October 22
Professor Moody practices the Imperius Curse on his students. Only Harry is capable of fully shaking off the effects.
October 30
Harry receives another letter from Sirius. The delegations from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang arrive. Dumbledore sets up the Goblet of Fire in the entrance hall with an Age Line circling it.
October 31
Fred and George take an aging potion to put their names in the Goblet. They are tossed out of the circle and grow long white beards. Harry, Ron, and Hermione have lunch with Hagrid.
The Triwizard champions are announced. Viktor Krum is chosen for Durmstrang, Fleur Delacour is picked to represent Beauxbatons, and Cedric Diggory is selected as the champion for Hogwarts. Harry's name also comes out of the Goblet even though he never submitted it. Ron is jealous of Harry and refuses to believe that he did not enter the tournament on purpose.
November 1
Harry writes to Sirius again.
November 2
Hagrid has the Care of Magical Creatures class take the Skrewts for a walk while he talks to Harry.
November 8
Malfoy insults both Harry and Hermione. Harry and Malfoy attack each other but the spells collide and deflect. Harry's shot hits Goyle, while Malfoy's shot hits Hermione. Her teeth grow past her chin, and Madame Pomfrey has to shrink them back down. Harry and Ron are given detention by Snape.
Mr. Ollivander arrives to weigh the champions' wands, and Harry is interviewed by Rita Skeeter. Harry receives a reply from Sirius.
November 11
An article about Harry written by Rita Skeeter appears in the Daily Prophet.
November 21
Harry and Hermione spend the day in Hogsmeade. That night Hagrid takes Harry to see the dragons being prepared for the first challenge.
November 22
Sirius appears to Harry to offer advice and warn him.
November 23
Harry warns Cedric about the dragons. Moody gives Harry a suggestion on using his broomstick to get through the first task. Hermione teaches Harry how to do a summoning charm.
Headmaster Dumbledore gives the house-elves Dobby and Winky work at Hogwarts. Winky refuses to be paid for her services.
November 24
The first task of the Triwizard Tournament. Each champion must get past one of four dragons and retrieve the golden egg from its nest. Harry and Krum tie for first place. Ron and Harry reconcile.
Harry sends a letter to Sirius. Gryffindor House has a party in celebration of Harry's success in the first task.
November 30
Only ten Blast-Ended Screwts remain under Hagrid's care. Rita Skeeter makes arrangements to interview Hagrid on Friday. Ron, Harry and Hermione visit the house-elves down in the kitchen.
December 1
Professor McGonagall announces the impending Yule Ball to be held on Christmas.
December 2
Harry is approached by a curly-haired third year Hufflepuff girl to accompany her to the Yule Ball.
Rita Skeeter interviews Hagrid for the Daily Prophet.
December 3
Harry is approached by two more girls for the Yule Ball. He turns them both down.
December 14
Professor Flitwick allows his Charms class to play games while he talks to Harry about the Summoning Charm Harry used in the first task. Fred asks Angelina Johnson to the ball.
December 16
Snape gives a Potions test, which Harry receives bottom marks on. Harry asks Cho Chang to the ball, but she had already agreed to go with Cedric Diggory. Ron asks Fleur Delacour for a date and she shoots him down. Harry asks Parvati Pavil and she accepts and agrees to ask her sister Padma to be Ron's date.
December 19-23
Ron tries to find out who Hermione's date to the ball is. Harry gets a letter from Sirius.
December 25
Harry wakes up to find Dobby looming over him. Harry and Dobby give each other socks for Christmas. Harry and Ron open the rest of their presents.
The students gather for the Yule Ball. Hermione's date is revealed to be Viktor Krum. They eat dinner and the floor is cleared for dancing afterwards but both Harry and Ron sit down after one song. Ron is jealous of Viktor and gets into a fight with Hermione. Harry and Ron go into the garden where they overhear Karkaroff talking to Snape and Hagrid speaking with Madame Maxine. Hagrid mentions he is half-giant. Cedric gives Harry a hint on how to solve the egg clue. After the ball Ron and Hermione have another fight in the Gryffindor common room.
December 26
Harry tells Hermione about Hagrid. Ron and Hermione come to an unspoken agreement not to discuss their argument.
1995
January
Rita Skeeter publishes an article for the Daily Prophet revealing that Hagrid is half-giant. Hagrid goes into seclusion. Professor Grubbly-Plank takes over his teaching duties.
January 21
Hogwarts students visit Hogmeade. Ron, Harry, and Hermione have a drink at the Three Broomsticks. Ludo Bagman is there conversing with a group of goblins, and places a bet with them that Harry will win the Triwizard Tournament. He offers to help Harry solve the egg clue. Harry and Hermione confront Rita Skeeter about the article she wrote. They visit Hagrid and help convince him to return to work.
January 23
Hagrid returns to work on orders from Professor Dumbledore.
January 26
Harry sneaks into the prefect's bathroom to solve the egg clue. Moaning Myrtle appears and helps Harry, complaining that he never visits her anymore. Harry spots Bartemius Crouch on the Marauder's Map. He decides to investigate but gets caught in the trick step on the staircase. The egg opens and the wailing attracts the attention of Filch and Snape. Harry is saved by Moody, who borrows the Marauder's Map.
January 27
Professor Flitwick's class practices Banishing Charms. Harry converses with Ron and Hermione about the previous night. Harry sends Sirius a letter.
February
Harry, Ron, and Hermione spend their free time researching a way for Harry to survive underwater in the second task.
The Dark Mark tattooed on the arm of every Death Eater begins to darken.
February 20
Harry gets a response from Sirius.
February 23
Ron, Hermione, Cho Chang, and Gabrielle Delacour are taken hostage in preparation for the second task. Harry spends all night in the library studying.
February 24
Harry oversleeps and is awakened by Dobby, who gives him a handful of gillyweed to use in the task. Harry dives into the lake and reaches the goal first, but refuses to leave until he knows everyone is safe. Cedric and Krum arrive and depart with their hostages, but Fleur never shows up. Harry unties both Ron and Gabrielle and takes them to the surface. Though he was the last to return, Harry is given a good score for his heroism. Harry and Cedric are tied for first place.
March 3
Harry gets a response from Sirius. An article by Rita Skeeter about Harry and Hermione is published in Witch Weekly. Snape catches them discussing it in class and separates Ron, Harry, and Hermione. He moves Harry to a desk directly in front, accusing Harry of breaking into his office. Snape is visited by Karkaroff.
March 4
Harry, Ron, and Hermione visit Sirius in Hogsmeade. He tells them about what Crouch did a decade ago.
March 5
Ron sends Percy a letter asking about Mr. Crouch. Harry, Ron, and Hermione visit the house-elves in the kitchen. Harry gives Dobby several pairs of new socks in gratitiude for the gillyweed. They send Sirius a package of food.
March 6
Hermione receives several nasty letters from people in regards to the article from Witch Weekly. One of them covers her hands in undiluted bubotuber pus.
March 7-13
Hermione continues to recieve nasty letters from people, but stops opening them. Several are Howlers and explode anyway.
April
Harry continues to send regular packages of food to Sirius. The students receive a large amount of homework.
April 16
Percy finally responds to Ron's letter. Mrs. Weasley sends Harry and Ron large eggs full of toffee, Hermione gets a very small one because of the article in Witch Weekly.
May 24
Ludo Bagman tells the champions what the third challenge will be. Krum talks to Harry about Hermione. Barty Crouch Sr. reappears, disheveled and insane. Harry leaves Crouch with Krum and goes to fetch Dumbledore. When they return Krum is unconscious and Crouch is missing. Later it is revealed Crouch Jr. had killed his father and hidden the body.
May 25
Harry tells Ron and Hermione about what happened the night before. They send an owl to Sirius. Fred tries to blackmail Ludo Bagman.
June
Harry spends all his free time practicing spells for the third task.
June 19
Harry practices the Stunning Spell with Ron and Hermione. He passes out in Divination and has another vision of Voldemort. When Harry wakes up his scar hurts, so he goes to see Professor Dumbledore. Harry looks into the Pensieve and sees the Death Eater trials from thirteen years ago.
June 20-23
Ron and Hermione help Harry prepare for the third task. Professor McGonagall gives the three of them permission to use the empty Tranfiguration classroom at lunchtimes.
June 24
Another article about Harry is published in the Daily Prophet. Ron and Hermione take their History of Magic final exam. Molly and Bill Weasley come to see Harry and support him for the third task.
The final task begins. Harry and Cedric enter the maze first. Krum and Fleur start soon after. Moody stuns Fleur and uses the Imperius Curse on Krum, who attacks Cedric. Harry stuns Krum. Harry and Cedric reach the Triwizard Cup at the same time, agreeing to share the victory. They grab the cup and are transported away to the cemetery where Voldemort is waiting.
Pettigrew kills Cedric. Pettigrew then prepares a spell to resurrect Voldemort. He takes bone from the grave of Tom Riddle, severs his right hand, and cuts open Harry's arm. Flesh, blood, and bone combine to bring Voldemort back to full strength. The Death Eaters are summoned. Voldemort chastises them, then tries to kill Harry in a duel. The spells cast by the two collide. Priori Incantem is triggered, creating ghostly shadows of those killed by Voldemort. They shield Harry from Voldemort and the Death Eaters so that he can escape. Harry grabs Cedric's body and uses the Triwizard Cup to return to Hogwarts.
Harry transports to the edge of the maze, in front of the waiting crowd. Moody takes Harry back to his office, revealing he is one who set Harry up. He tries to kill Harry but is stopped by Dumbledore. The disguise fades and the Death Eater is revealed to be Barty Crouch Jr.. Dumbledore gives him truth serum and he reveals everything about his escape from Azkaban and infiltration into Hogwarts.
Dumbledore takes Harry up to his office where Sirius is waiting. Harry tells the two of them everything that happened that night. Harry spends the night in the infirmary. Cornelius Fudge brings a dementor into the castle and allows it to adminster the kiss to Barty Crouch. Fudge refuses to believe Voldemort has returned and has a falling-out with Dumbledore. He gives Harry the prize money and leaves.
Hermione catches Rita Skeeter, who had been turning herself into a beetle to listen in on private conversations. Hermione puts her into a jar and makes her promise not to write anything for a year once released.
June 25
Harry meets with Mr. and Mrs. Diggory. They thank him for returning Cedric's body.
June 26
Harry returns to Gryffindor Tower.
June 29
Harry, Ron, and Hermione visit Hagrid in his cabin.
June 30
The Leaving Feast is held. Dumbledore tells the students the truth about how Cedric died.
July 1
The students head home aboard the Hogwarts Express. Malfoy harasses Harry and the others on the train, only to be attacked by a combination of hexes from Harry, Hermione and the Weasleys. Harry gives Fred and George his Triwizard winnings so they can open a joke shop after graduation.
Events of Book 5 (July 1995 - July 1996)
July 31
Harry receives boxes of Honeydukes chocolate from both Ron and Hermione for his birthday. He throws them away unopened.
August 2
Dudley Dursley beats up Mark Evans for being cheeky, even though Mark is only ten.
August 4
Mundungus Fletcher is on guard duty to look after Harry, but leaves to look into some stolen cauldrons. Harry goes for a walk and runs into Dudley. They are attacked by two dementors and Harry successfully fends them off with a Patronus. Mrs. Figg arrives and takes the boys home. Harry gets into a confrontation with Uncle Vernon about what happened to Dudley.
